Look at these fellas? Don’t they look like exactly the kind of guys you’d wanna go on a roadtrip with from Winnipeg MB, to Victoria, BC? Yuh-uh, me too. So we’re gonna do it! In all seriousness, we love this band, and are very excited to tour with them this spring. Their new album comes out April 20, and it will surely be amazing. Here are the dates:
April 28 | Winnipeg, MB | WECC w/ Plants & Animals
April 29 | Saskatoon, SK | Amigos w/ Plants & Animals
April 30 | Edmonton, AB | Starlite Room w/ Plants & Animals
May 1 | Calgary, AB | Royal Canadian Legion (Br 1) w/ Plants & Animals
May 2 | Kelowna, BC | Habitat w/ Plants & Animals
May 4 | Victoria, BC | Sugar w/ Plants & Animals
May 5 | Vancouver, BC | Commodore Ballroom w/ Plants & Animals
Hope to see some of you there!
Love,
Whales

Wow. Honestly, we’re pretty blown away at the response from our call for artwork. We received over 60 submissions – you are all so gosh darn talented… In fact if it weren’t for all of you, this EP probably would have featured some really weak stick-man drawings care of yours truly. So thank you. Thank you all. And now, our decision…
THANKS and CONGRATS to Abbi MacDonald from Barrie, Ontario! Here’s Abbi’s totally rad cover:

As awesome as Abbi’s cover is, it would be downright criminal to ignore some of the other amazing covers, so here are a few more of our favourites. Click the image to view gallery:

PS – We should probably also mention that the Bear Bones EP will be available on iTunes on Feb 16!

Dear everyone,
We would like to offer you our most heartfelt and sincere thanks for this past year. Two thousand and nine has been incredible for us, and its all thanks to you. We’ve met so many amazing people in our travels this year; fans at shows, fans on the internets, fans on the street, music promoters, radio station personnel, label folk, industry types, artists, hotel staff, bar managers, parking lot attendants, highway patrol officers, cafe baristas, auto mechanics…and countless more amazing individuals. We’re also proud and honoured to have made such incredible new friends in the Canadian music scene in bands such as Mother Mother, Arkells, Joel Plaskett, Tokyo Police Club, Will Currie & The Country French, The Dudes, Hey Rosetta, City And Colour, Yukon Blonde, We Are The City (and more!), as well as having maintained and had wonderful times with old friends Dan Mangan, Hannah Georgas, Hey Ocean, The Zolas, Hollerado and more.
So thank you all, musicians and fans alike, for your incredible support. It means the world to us.
We hope you all have a happy New Year and we’ll see you in 2010.
Love,
Said The Whale

The above lyric from Hey Rosetta’s song “A Thousand Suns” comes to mind when trying to describe how grateful we are to everyone in Canada for such an incredible tour. Really, such an amazing 6 weeks. Thanks to all those who let us sleep on their floors, eat their food, use their showers, park in their spaces, and make noise at their venues. Thanks to everyone who came to the shows, danced, sang along, clapped their hands together, brought their friends, spent their hard-earned money on our merch and gave us great hugs afterwards. And thanks to the road for being mostly clear of rain, snow, ice, wild animals and drunk drivers.
Have a lovely winter everyone.
And to Vancouver, hopefully we’ll see you at our CD release show on Nov. 25th.
Love,
Whales

I fell asleep with a huge grin on my face last night. It could have been that I was a bit tipsy from the novelty of a cash bar on board a ferry, or it could have been that I was just entirely giddy about the Darjeeling Limited style bunk that I was occupying for the 7 hour crossing from North Sydney, NS to Port aux Basques, NL. Either way, it’s our first time in (on?) the province of Newfoundland, and we couldn’t be happier. The accents are already thick and juicy, and the screetch awaits us with open arms (or so I hear). Driving from the ferry terminal to Corner Brook felt like we were on another planet – that is until the snow showed up. It’s funny how a thin blanket of snow can take the most unfamiliar place and make it feel just like home.
Since our maritime debut, we’ve visited and played shows in Fredericton, St. George and Hampton, NB, Charlottetown, PEI and Halifax, NS. Everyone here on the East coast has treated us like family and we’ve been enjoying every minute of our time here. Tonight we play in Corner Brook, and tomorrow we head to St. John’s for our furthest show away from home to date. Wish us luck…
